Book: After the Ecstasy, The Laundry: How the Heart Grows Wise on the Spiritual Path
Author: Jack Kornfield

It's a detailed lengthy read. The kind of book you want to take your time reading. It took me a while to get through it but I enjoyed it. I was taken with an interview Jack Kornfield did with Oprah awhile ago.

Jack's life story in itself is quite a spiritual journey. He is a Buddhist who lived as a monk in the monasteries of Thailand, India and Burma. His whole take on spirituality is that it's a work in progress. Some days are better than others. The book reflected that. Only it included testimonies monks, priests, ministers, leaders and all sorts of phenomenal people from all over the world. All their stories were so universal and inspiring. One quote from the book that really resonated was "Enlightenment is not an end goal; it is just another moment in time." I remember having these moments during meditation where I felt light and free during yoga teacher training. I'm not sure it was enlightenment but it was darn close.

What I've learned is that you can't become too attached to even that. Approaching it all with an openness and a sense of non -attachment is really what growing spiritually is. This book followed that theme. Check it out from your local library. That's what I did. Indeed a mindful read!
